Des Adams’ FAB Pumpkins!!

GOODLEIGH RESIDENT DES ADAMS organises the popular “Grow the biggest pumpkin competition” in Goodleigh, which he has organised over the past 11 years raising over £5,000 for local charities.
Des grows pumpkins from the seeds taken from the largest pumpkin grown from the previous year, and sells the small plants at £5 each to individuals to plant up for the competition. In October the pumpkins are weighed at the The New Inn, Goodleigh, which has become a fantastic community event. This year the largest pumpkin weighed in at a phenomenal 90lb. The Thatch Inn Croyde Bay are extremely supportive and they give Des a donation for the pumpkins each year which they make into creative Halloween pumpkins that are lit and glow around the pub. The Thatch Inn Croyde Bay then pass Des the seeds back from the largest pumpkin ready for the following year.

This year Des’ amazing event raised a fantastic £697.24 for the Cancer and Wellbeing Centre Appeal. Des is absolutely phenomenal – he organises this event every year and raises thousands of pounds to support the local community. Over the past three years he has raised almost £2,000 for the Cancer and Wellbeing Centre Appeal. He really is an amazing man, and his support is helping us build a new cancer support centre for the people of North Devon.
