Get ready for the Great Purple Weekend – Friday 26 – Sunday 28 July

THIS YEAR BIG PURPLE DAY IS BIGGER THAN EVER AND THERE IS NOW EXTRAVAGANZA’S OVER A WHOLE WEEKEND.

Join in and make the weekend totally purple!

What are you doing for Big Purple Day?

LOCAL people and businesses are being encouraged to go purple for the hospital charity Over and Above to raise funds for a new cancer support unit and relatives accommodation wing at North Devon District Hospital.

The fundraising team is holding its 8th Big Purple Weekend on Friday 26 – Sunday 28 July.

Big Purple Day is a great way to raise funds and awareness to provide better health services locally at the North Devon District Hospital.

This year the majority of the funds raised from Over and Above’s Big Purple Weekend will go towards the hospital’s Cancer and Wellbeing Centre Appeal.  The charity aims to raise £1.5m for a cancer and wellbeing centre and relatives accommodation wing at North Devon District Hospital. The Centre will be a dedicated space available to anyone affected by cancer and other conditions at any stage of their illness. The facility will offer a drop in service, providing information on cancer and other conditions, counselling and psychological support, financial and benefits advice, hair loss support, nutritional advice, complementary medicines such as Reiki and massage, health and wellbeing events and courses. The Centre will not just be open to our patients, but will also be available to relatives and carers who can gain support and ask any questions they may have.

Head of Fundraising and Volunteering Ian Roome said “The support we have had for the appeal has been overwhelming and I would like to thank everyone for their support. We are hoping to encourage everyone to fundraise using the colour purple – that maybe be asking your friends and family to sell purple cakes, wear purple – in fact anything that takes your fancy.  We want to see North Devon in purple!  This is your moment to sell your homemade delicious cakes with vibrant purple icing at your workplace, to wear purple clothing for the day, dye your hair or beard purple or why not go completely purple and facepaint too.”

The Over and Above fundraising team would love to hear what you are doing for the Big Purple Weekend.   Let them know your stories and send in your pictures.

Come and take part and enjoy some fun and frolics on the day and encourage your friends and family to raise funds for Over and Above, to make the cancer support unit a reality.
