Brave Euan Raises Money In Memory of His Uncle Rowan

EIGHT YEAR OLD Euan Beer of Little Torrington was given a Grasshopper remote control car which had belonged to his Uncle Rowan.

Sadly Rowan Terry of Little Torrington passed away of Oesophageal cancer after a short illness, and Euan decided that he wanted to help other people like his much loved uncle by using his remote controlled car to raise funds for the Over and Above Cancer and Wellbeing Support Centre.

Euan took on the challenge of steering his remote controlled car along 8 miles of the Tarka Trail between Torrington and Bideford old railway stations.  Euan said “Lots of my friends and family sponsored me.  I managed to walk all the way but it was quite difficult to steer because it kept going off the track, but it is a very good car and only needed one set of batteries.”

Over and Above Fundraising Officer Julie Whitton said “Euan raised a magnificent £351.60 for the Cancer and Wellbeing Centre Appeal.  He truly is inspirational. Not only did he raise a huge amount to support other patients like his uncle but he also walked a long distance with his car.  Our fundraising team think he’s amazing!”

Rowan’s sister Hannah Poynton said “Sadly my brother Rowan was diagnosed with Oesophageal Cancer and passed away after a short illness in December 2017 aged just 39 years old.  He left Euan his remote control car, which Euan treasures and I know Rowan would be very proud to know what Euan has achieved and how he is supporting other patients”.
