DO YOU LIKE walking … LIKE running …

LIKE stunning scenery?

DO YOU LIKE delicious local food …
LIKE refreshing drinks … LIKE FUN?

… THEN THE SCRUMPTIOUS CROYDE TRAIL is the event for you.

Enthusiastic runners and walkers will be in for a Devon treat at the SCRUMPTIOUS CROYDE TRAIL event on Sunday 2nd June 2019.

This however is not just any trail, this event offers every participant a delicious menu of local produce as they follow the paths around some of the UK’s finest beauty hot spots.

This scenic 10 mile circular trail will take place on Sunday 2nd June starting in Croyde and will lead participants through the picturesque villages of Croyde, Saunton, Georgeham, Putsborough overlooking Woolacombe, with glimpses of stunning coastal views at every turn.

“We enjoyed a perfect day – the sun was shining, the walk and the views were amazing, the food scrumptious and the people and atmosphere fun, fun, fun.  Young, old, groups and singletons – we were all made very welcome.  We all felt like we were being fed beautiful food tasters every 10 minutes. A Bloody Mary offered at 9am?  Go on then, it’s for charity after all!   Everyone we have spoken to is desperate to do it again and the ones that didn’t do it, after all of our boasting about the food and drink, will definitely be taking part in the next one.” Walker Sarita Warmington

We truly believe this event commands one of the most spectacular event views that you will experience in the UK. This is a trail that you will truly never forget.

The trail starts in the quaint, picturesque coastal village of Croyde, well known as a surfers’ paradise.  The pathway leads participants toward Down End, up and over North Devon hills and along North Devon’s stunning National Trust coastal and public footpaths passing some of the most beautiful beaches in the World!   Woolacombe Beach was voted the best beach in the UK in 2016 and the 13th best in the world by travellers on Trip Advisor in 2015.   This really is a stunning area to visit.

The route will take you down countryside lanes bordered by Devon hedgerows.  You will pass a medieval manor house, a ruined farmhouse, and you will pass Skirr Cottage, where writer Henry Williamson lived in the 1920’s.  It was this area that inspired him to write his most famous book, Tarka the Otter.  There will be lots of opportunities to see miles and miles of sandy beaches with views across to Hartland and Lundy Island (an unspoilt island famous for its puffins) … and the views of Braunton Burrows (one of the largest sand dune systems in England) is simply breathtaking.

quote“It was absolutely brilliant.  There were about 12 North Devon Road Runners in our group and we all had a fantastic time.  The course was superb, the food was really good, the organisation faultless.  The whole event was so friendly and so much fun; we ate too much, drank too much, ran too slowly and rolled down hills too quickly.  We had a perfect day out.”  – Simon Heywood, North Devon Road Runners

Local food suppliers will be offering tasty small morsels of delicious local produce for participants to enjoy at stops along the way.

What more could you ask for!

Orchard-Farm-Shop-proprietoOrchard Farm Proprietor (and one of the food-stop organisers) Liz Wilton said “I am passionate about sourcing and using local produce which is why Rob Cooper and I set up Orchard Farm Shop.   Our local suppliers have our same passion and we know that the participants taking part will enjoy all the delicious samples being offered along around the stops on the route.   The list of suppliers that have come on board is amazing.”

At the start each participant will be offered a refreshing bottle of Tarka Springs Water, produced and bottled at Little Comfort Farm in the heart of North Devon’s famous Tarka valley to take along the way.

At the finish, there is an option to browse through the Orchard Farm pop-up shop to purchase some of the delicious treats that have been tasted along the trail.  Next … sit back, relax and enjoy the beach and other activities that the picturesque village of Croyde has to offer.  What are you waiting for.

This is a fun event for both runners and walkers.  The walkers will be the first to start followed by the runners.

The maximum entry is 300 participants so please remember to book early because once the allocated 300 places are filled, the event will be closed to participants.   Our previous scrumptious events have all sold out, so book early to avoid disappointment.

Wild West characters is this year’s fancy dress theme – Go on!  it would be great to see you on the day dressed as cowboys, Indians or even a Wild West character from Devon … you choose!   PRIZE for the BEST – the winner will go home with a trophy.

The Webbers Estate Agent trophy will be awarded to the person who raises the most sponsorship.  Sponsorship is optional, but if every participant could raise an additional £35 it would amount to an additional £10,000 to support our patients at the hospital – wow!

Restrictions:  18 years+ only.  No dogs as they are not permitted on parts of the route.

Simon-Oliver-liz-wiltonThe event route was designed by Simon Oliver (and proprietor of St Johns Garden Centre). Simon is a local runner from the Woolacombe area, and he is pleased to be able to share the running routes that he trains on with you.  Rob Cooper and Liz Wilton of www.orchardsfarmshop are organising the food stops.  Together, Simon, Rob, Liz and the NHS charity “Over and Above” fundraising team will ensure we produce an event that you will want to be part of.
