Kentisbury Open Gardens

Date/Time June 26, 2016 12:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Location Higher Patchole Farm

On Sunday 26th June the beautiful gardens of Kentisbury will be open to the public to raise money for the Special Care Baby Unit and village hall.

The following 9 stunning gardens will be open for you to view;

  1. Beachborough (Cream Teas and parking here) – Terraced herbaceous borders lead to the lawns, stream, orchard and duck pond. This former Georgian Rectory is set in 4 acres of gardens and is home to the “Kentisbury National Collection” of roses and an ornamental kitchen garden to die for!
  2. Middle Week – A garden designed to encourage wildlife with areas of natural grassland and ponds.
  3. Washford Cottage – New owners are yet to discover the delights of their garden and what it has to offer as the seasons change.
  4. Little Ley (some parking available on the drive) – A large informal garden with ponds, stream, mature trees and shrubs, perennial flower beds and fruit and vegetable patch, plus lawns and wildlife areas. Plants for sale here.
  5. South Sandpark (parking available here in the field off the B3229 just along from the Post Office– follow signs) – This is a well-established garden that the current owners are trying to keep well stocked and improve as time allows. No expert but help provided by the ducks, chickens and geese that keep the slugs at bay.

PATCHOLE: – (parking available on the road or at Higher Patchole Farm)

  1. Little Cottage – A cottage garden that has evolved with gifts, cuttings and random purchases!
    There is no design or planting scheme but things are popped in when a gap appears!
  2. Patchole Cottage – A sheltered garden, recently under renovation to provide colour and fragrance and a welcome home for the birds!
  3. Spring Cottage – A colourful garden on three levels, full of shrubs and perennials and the “Kentisbury collection of geraniums”. Plants for sale here.
  4. Higher Patchole Farm– A beautiful formal walled garden extending into fields behind with the Kentisbury pampered hen house to be proud of!

It’s advisable to drive between most of these gardens and not to leave your car at the Village Hall as the distances make visiting on foot rather a challenge. However, gardens 6 to 9 are within easy walking distance of each other so park on the road near Spring Cottage or at Higher Patchole when visiting these. Cream teas will be available from Beachborough and tea and cakes from Higher Patchole Farm.

Tickets are £5 per person.  Cream tea £4.50.

Proceeds to North Devon District Hospital Special Care Baby Unit and village hall funds.
